Who Is A Good Candidate For Abdominoplasty Surgery?

There are several characteristics that exemplify a good abdominoplasty candidate.  You should be of a reasonable weight and have maintained that weight for at least a year prior to the surgery.  You should be a non-smoker or willing to quit for several months before and after the procedure.  You should have no current major medical problems that would put you at risk during the abdominoplasty surgery.  And finally, you should have weakened or separated abdominal muscles and loose skin on and around your midsection.

What Is Recovery From Abdominoplasty Like?

While recovery from abdominoplasty varies from one person to another you can expect a minimum of two to three weeks away from work and your other normal activities. It is also possible that you will require the help of a friend, family member, or private nurse for a few days to help with bathing, movement, and changing any dressings.

In total, it will take from six to eight weeks to recover completely, and for some people even longer, to return to your normal activities and lifestyle. Your surgeon will continue to monitor your healing after the surgery and will let you know when you may resume certain activities.

What Results Should I Expect From Abdominoplasty?

Obviously the results of each person will be different.  Your cosmetic surgeon will be able to give you an accurate idea of what results are possible for your case.  In an ideal scenario your midsection will be free of ripples and bulges from fat deposits, the skin will appear tighter and younger looking, and in many cases stretch marks can be removed or at least diminished.

Once complete your results should remain as long as you continue with a moderate diet and exercise plan.  Some things that can negatively affect the results of an abdominoplasty are pregnancy, massive weight gain or loss and ageing.
