Liposuction For Men Is More Common Than You Think
In the past liposuction and all cosmetic surgery was considered a female thing. Now thanks to advancements in techniques having something fixed with cosmetic surgery is safer and easier than ever. In addition to that there are now larger numbers of men opting for cosmetic surgery. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons liposuction for men accounted for 11% of all liposuction procedures in 2007.
Men choose liposuction for exactly the same reason that women do, to get a sexier body that looks better both dressed and undressed. While it is a known fact that men lose weight quicker and easier than women, they are still plagued with some fat deposits that resist all efforts of diet and exercise to remove. Love handles they are called and yet no one really loves them or wants to hang on to them.
It’s these fat cells that don’t respond to diet and exercise that have increased the amount of abdominal liposuction for men in recent years. In many cases if you want a chiseled six pack the only way to finally get it is through liposuction surgery.
The face is another popular liposuction spot for men. This is really a case of having no other alternative since there are no exercises that will burn off facial fat. So, men are choosing liposuction to get rid of their double chins and to slim their jaw line. Honestly, a few ounces of fat removed from the jawline can make a man look years younger.
Another area where liposuction for men has been helping is the embarrassing condition of gynecomastia. This is an enlargement of the male breast and can seriously affect a man’s self-esteem and self-confidence. In minor and moderate cases of gyncomastia liposuction can be used to suction out the excess fat and return the breasts back to normal.
The fat removal is done with an instrument called a cannula, which is a slim tube that works like a vacuum and is used to vacuum out the fat cells in the targeted area. A local anesthetic is used to numb the area. There are several different liposuction techniques that can be performed depending on the area of the body, the severity of the fat deposits and the patient’s condition.
Liposuction is the only way to spot reduce fat in the body and even though the fat cells are removed permanently, if you don’t change your bad eating habits, new fat cells will form. This means that a healthy diet and exercise should be adopted to maintain your new look after liposuction.
Remember that liposuction for men is not a weight loss method. It does remove fat, but it also carries risks. Those considering liposuction should already be within 20 pounds of their goal weight and should be ready to maintain that weight after their liposuction.
One other thing to consider is that there are risks, as with any surgical procedure. Excessive tissue removal, bleeding, infection and scarring can occur. To keep your risk at a minimum, research your surgeon before agreeing to surgery. He should be board certified and licensed to perform liposuction. He should also have experience with liposuction for men. Simply because you’re male it doesn’t mean you have to live with the spare tire around your middle. If diet and exercise have failed you maybe you should check out what cosmetic surgery can do.
