Risks of Complications with Los Angeles Liposuction
Don’t think that because it’s cosmetic surgery that there are no risks involved with liposuction. There are potential risks that you should consider and discuss with your Los Angeles cosmetic surgeon before you do anything.
Below are some of the more common complications that can occur with liposuction. Please be aware of them and bring them up to your doctor before you have liposuction done.
Swelling and Bruising: Swelling is normal and occurs in every liposuction patient. Bruising is also very common, depending on the area. Abdominal liposuction can lead to genital bruising due to the downward movement of the blood from gravity. Compression and massage can help with both bruising and swelling.
Wrinkling: This will vary depending on your skins elasticity. If you’re already prone to stretch marks and skin dimples you can expect to see some degree of dimpling after your liposuction. Again, massage can minimize this. Your Los Angeles liposuction doctor should discuss this with you and can recommend a good post operative massage therapist.
Changes in sensation: This happens to a majority of patients in the area that has been liposuctioned and can be either increased sensitivity (pain) or decreased sensitivity (numbness). In either case massage can help and usually everything goes back to normal within 2-4 months after your surgery.
Muscle spasms: These are very common for liposuction patients and usually disappear quickly.
Pain and discomfort: Another very common symptom after liposuction, it will feel similar to the soreness you experience after working out too hard. Easily managed by pain medications and usually disappears after a couple of weeks.
Fluid collection: This problem is common with Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL), and is when there is a pooling of serum in areas where tissue has been removed. Your Los Angeles liposuction surgeon can remove this fluid through a simple in office procedure.
In addition to the more common post surgery complications above there can sometime be more severe complications such as infection, embolism, perforations, fluid imbalances and risks from anesthesia. All of these are rare, but should still be discussed with your cosmetic surgeon prior to surgery.
Overall, liposuction is a fairly safe and simple procedure. Thousands are performed and if you choose a good plastic surgeon your risks are very minimal. Discuss all of the possible complications with your Los Angeles liposuction doctor prior to surgery and you should feel safe and comfortable.
