The one biggest advantage of gynecomastia liposuction is the time factor.  You can get rid of excess chest fat in as little as a few hours.  No guessing if it will work, no waiting for the effects, just instant results.  Unlike exercising and hormonal treatments that mean many weeks or even months of patient waiting before results are noticed, gynecomastia liposuction sucks the fat out in hours and the results are immediate.  So, the difference is basically immediately visible.

However, liposuction for gynecomastia has several disadvantages as well.  The first disadvantage is the pain involved.  The procedure involves cutting through the skin and as with any surgical procedure, some level of pain is unavoidable.  In the majority of cases, doctors specify a recovery period of two to five days, depending on the extent of the liposuction.  If you enjoy an active lifestyle, you will be required to slow down for a minimum of one week while you heal.

When people with chronic cases of gynecomastia are surgically treated with liposuction, problems can and do arise.  In a lot of cases, there is residual scarring which makes a 2nd operation necessary.  Even in those cases where a 2nd operation is unnecessary, the scars left behind can be quite obvious.

Gynecomastia liposuction can even lead to uneven body contours in some cases.  This occurs because each side of the chest is operated on separately.  So, the chance of a slight difference in contours of each side is quite high.

Cost is one other thing to be aware of.  Liposuction for gynecomastia is not cheap.  The cost of one liposuction surgery could be anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000.  And in cases where a second surgery is required, the costs could rise significantly.  Unfortunately, these expenses are not covered by most insurance plans either unless your doctor can prove that the surgery is required for medical reasons.

So, overall gynecomastia liposuction can be both dangerous and expensive.  Yet many men opt for this treatment every year as a quick and permanent solution to psychologically devastating gynecomastia and who can blame them.
