Cellulite is the type of fat that will be removed during a thigh liposuction procedure. Cellulite is the fat which deposits in the connective tissues of the skin making the skin appear as if it is pocked or rippled. Cellulite can look like wrinkles, dimples and deep lines in your thighs. It is typically very hard to remove using the normal methods of diet and exercise.

Because of their biological skin structure women are much more vulnerable to developing cellulite. Even thin women have the possibility of developing cellulite deposits that are visible on their thighs.

Cellulite on the thighs can be very annoying and troublesome. The cellulite has a tendency to rub more against your thighs and any clothing you wear becoming sore in some cases. It also has the effect of ruining the appearance of your thighs which becomes especially noticeable when wearing tight shorts and swimsuits. Once begun, the development of thigh cellulite is quite likely to continue from the tops of the thighs all the way down to the knees. For many women the best solution at this point is to undergo thigh liposuction.

Thigh liposuction is performed like any other liposuction procedure. Basically, small cuts are made and a thin tube, called a cannula is inserted in the cuts. The cannula is then manipulated under the skin to suction the fat deposits in the thigh. Depending on the type of cannula used and the skill of the cosmetic surgeon some irregularities and imperfections may develop as a result of the thigh liposuction. To keep these irregularities to a minimum the cosmetic surgeon will use cannulas with smaller diameters. Even when using the smaller tubes it is still a possibility that irregularities will develop due to excessive tissue damage if the liposuction doctor is careless when performing the operation.

Thigh liposuction is not a procedure that will work for everyone. Those with inelastic skin due to damage or age may not benefit from a thigh liposuction as much as those with younger and more elastic skin. When the skin is not able to stretch and shrink you can often get even worse cellulite conditions, skin wrinkling and sagging after undergoing thigh liposuction. This means that older patients and those with loose or sagging skin should search for alternatives to thigh liposuction.

One positive of thigh liposuction is that recovery and healing is generally quite quick. You will experience swelling, bruising and some pain for several days to 2 weeks, but this can be managed with over the counter pain medication.  The liposuction doctor will also recommend that you use a compression garment to lessen the swelling making the recovery process faster.  While improvements will be seen as soon as the swelling and bruising subside it may take as long as 6 months for the full benefits to be noticed.
